Magical Moments

When we first moved into our family home, I remember standing in the backyard thinking I had never seen so much grass before. Coming from a city home, and moving into full blown suburbia, I remember being amazed by driveways and cul-de-sacs, and in complete awe of how big our yard was. Over the years when the house started to feel like home and I was spending my teenage years thinking about my future, I would picture one day getting married in our backyard. I could imagine the big white tent, the elegant tables covered in candles, and my family looking fabulous while laughing and dancing under a sea of twinkly lights. . . As the years have gone by I started having other dreams about traveling the world and adventure, and somewhere along the way I forgot about my dream backyard wedding. That is until the morning before Niko and Jess’ engagement party when I walked outside to find a beautiful white tent waiting for us to come inside and place the final touches for the event. I walked around with everyone setting up tables and chairs, centerpieces and place settings, thinking “This is it, this was the dream I had pictured so long ago.” The day of the engagement party went by in a flash of love, family, and memories we’ll cherish forever, and when I found myself dancing in the rain under a sea of twinkly lights celebrating a beautiful love, I marveled at the idea that sometimes our dreams come true, and even though they might look a little differently than we originally imagined, it doesn’t make the moment any less magical.
