I love receiving gifts. Cue, shock..maybe even disgust! *Christine you’re not Actually supposed to say that! You’re supposed to say “Oh you didn’t need to do that! I didn’t need anything! You don’t need to spend money on me!” Anything that will make the person giving you a gift feel like they weren’t obligated to buy you something.* Well guess what guys, the gig is up, they already know that. We’re trained to almost push away what many consider “unnecessary gifts,” birthdays and Christmas are one thing, we know we’re about to receive a gift and know to say thank you. However when we’re given a gift that isn’t prompted by a holiday our brains instantly react in a way that almost pushes the gesture away, “Oh my goodness you did Not need to do that!” Again I state, they know. These random and unexpected gifts are Always my favorite, they’re the ones in my opinion that mean so much more because the idea for them wasn’t born from some sort of societal obligation, instead it is almost always an “I saw this and thought of you” moment which is something I will always believe as one of the purest forms of love. These unexpected gifts do not require an even exchange, simply the acknowledgment that you are loved. Could there be anything better?? So yes, I am saying it loud and clear. I. Love. Gifts. And if you’ve ever surprised me with a token of love in gift form when I wasn’t expecting it, know that I still treasure that moment no matter how long it’s been and I am so grateful for you and the love you’ve shown me.
