“Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, and creativity. It is the source of hope, empathy, accountability, and authenticity. If we want greater clarity in our purpose or deeper more meaningful spiritual lives, vulnerability is the path.” - Brene Brown

My dear friend Allie turned me on to the wonderful woman that is Brene Brown, she showed me her ted talks and recommended her books, somehow knowing that I would find myself in her words. In her work Brene has discovered that the people who are living their lives wholeheartedly, something I hope we all strive to do, are also the people who live their lives from a place of vulnerability.

I believe this to be true, I understand and completely agree that to live wholehearted lives we need to put ourselves and our hearts out there. I understand that to live the kind of life I want, I need to always challenge myself without fear of the outcome, and this is the kind of life I have always tried to live. However, if I am being completely honest, I have perfected the idea of limited vulnerability. I put myself out there but only to the point that I am comfortable with, but I know I can go further. There are many parts of myself and my past that I keep locked up, for fear of letting people in, but through Brene’s work I am finally ready to accept that I need to unlock that safe and truly let myself be seen. Something that has never been easy for me, but what I know I need to do.

I hope you will go on this journey of vulnerability with me, I know how hard it is to let people in and worry - what if they don’t like what they see and leave? I am not going to lie to you, it is absolutely a possibility, but the bigger question should be - what if they don’t? What if, the more you reveal about yourself, the more they love you? And in the slight chance that they do leave, imagine the wonderful person who will see your vulnerability and love you for it - even if that person is you. - So let’s go ahead and do this friends - let’s open our hearts and be courageous, because we will be so much happier in the end.

And if you come to a point where you are scared of the outcome, reach out to me, I am always here for you and I already love you for who you are.
