I Am A Writer

“I still believe I can do anything,” I want to be a writer, I know this, and if I am being completely honest, I have known it since I was in the third grade, keeping journals filled with poems I had written that I believed no one would ever read. I knew it, when I was a sophomore in high school trying to write a “How-To Survive High School” guide, and then again when I tried to write the story of the first time I fell in love. I knew I wanted to be a writer but was never sure why I wanted to write until this past year, and after just recently being asked the question, I am ready to share my answer. . As some of you know, I just returned from a beautiful trip where I had the pleasure of meeting Philippe, our skipper, who could not have been a kinder human being. One night while out to dinner, we talked about why I made the choice to close the bakery and where I pictured my life going next. I explained that I wanted to be a writer, and he asked me the question I am now ready to share my answer to, “Why do you want to write?” My response is simple, I don’t want anyone to ever feel alone; while it can be scary to put my thoughts out into the world, letting people know they aren’t alone through my writing, is the life I have always dreamed of having. We spend so much of our time wrapped up in the thoughts running rampant through our brains, and we always seem to think we are the only ones. I remember being younger and strongly feeling loneliness, loss and heartache, while constantly struggling with self-acceptance, and always believing that I was the only one. I wasn’t. I’ve realized now over time and after talking openly with the people I love, that the issues we all struggle with, should bring us together, not push us apart. So whenever I feel something strongly, or experience heartbreak or joy, I’ve decided to share it with all of you, because none of us are alone in this life and I hope that by reading my words, you will find comfort in knowing you are not the only one. . I am not sure where my writing will take me, but as my friend wrote in this beautiful poem, I don’t think I ever lost hope that I would one day have the courage to share my words with you, and that is what’s important. I know that I can do absolutely anything my heart dreams of, which is a feeling I want for everyone. It can be scary to chase after what you want, every single time I post something new I wonder, “Will anyone relate to this? Or even bother reading it?” However, I have always believed that if something scares you, it is a sign you absolutely must do it. Imagine how wonderful this world would be if we all took the leap in pursuing the life we have always dreamed of. As Tyler wrote, “So many forget that we are capable of magic things, we can construct our own futures, as we wish, as we have always wished.” . For me, that means I am pushing forward with my writing, sharing my thoughts and experiences, hoping that you will join me along for the ride and realize that you are not alone in this life. My wish for you and your life is, I hope that you have the courage to chase after the life you have dreamed of, and when you feel like you are alone, remember I am right here cheering you on.
